IAS Presidents Message
Barbara Johnson – 2020 President IAS
If you had told me last year that the 2020 Ilderton Fair preparations and implementations would not follow the typical path, I would have never believed it.
Yet I truly believe that an organization, like the Ilderton Agricultural Society, rooted in community and volunteerism is resilient. The 2020 Ilderton Fair will be one like no other. It may be a fraction of what we are use to, entirely virtual or perhaps cancelled for 2020. We will learn, adapt, and persevere. The IAS has been around for 169 years and will be for many more.
The Directors have met, and will continue to meet, virtually and will determine how we will proceed.
It is wonderful to see this fairbook come together. We appreciate the continuous support of all our fair sponsors and in this uncertain economy we want them to know they are under no obligation to sponsor this year. Our top priorities are to support our 4-H competitions/sales and to celebrate our community and rural lifestyle.
Thank you to our members and volunteers that are the heart of the IAS. I know however we proceed you will be there, physically or virtually, ready to do whatever needs to be done.
If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Stay Safe
Homecraft Presidents Message
Caitlyn Williams – 2020 Homecraft President
As I write this in the spring of 2020, I find myself looking to the past as we try to anticipate our future.
I do not know what our incredible Fair will look like this year, as we face the Covid-19 Pandemic. It’s hard to imagine that the 169th Ilderton Fair might look completely different than previous years, if we are able to proceed at all. What I do know is that we have a long, cherished history in our community, and even if our Fair must be altered this year, eventually we will be back and stronger than ever.
One thing that does bring me hope and joy is knowing that during this Great Pause, while we are all staying in and staying safe, that our creativity is flourishing and we do not have idle hands! Many of us are turning to creative pursuits, and I anticipate that our Homecraft displays will be full of the projects that we are working on at home. I’m especially looking forward to our Food displays as so many of us have returned to cooking and baking at home.
Regardless of what the future holds, we as a community will move forward together. I look forward to seeing you all at our next Ilderton Fair.
